Who'd name their kid that? None of the Japanese people I know appear to think of that as a name.

It seems a bit strange name nowadays. But, a few decades ago, there are people with this name. There was a famous twin lady in Japan called 'Kin' and 'Gin' (meaning silver). They are alredy dead but they were extremely popular.

Kin also refers to the sound of clashing metal, which is used by the character Kin Tsuchi from the anime/manga Naruto.
