After the murder of Tsar Nicholas II of Russian and his family Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich of Russia assumed the role as the head of the Imperial Family of Russia and became the Guardian of the Throne. He was married to his paternal first cousin Princess Victoria Melita of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

In the film Eastern Promises, Vincent Cassel plays a character named Kirill. In the film he is the son of Semyon and both are major Russian Mob figures.
