"It's really Germanised Latin when it comes down to it. I don't think it looks more Polish than German, although the 'sz' together look vaguely Polish I guess.

In German it's pronounced CRESS-tsents. It used to be very popular in Catholic areas, especially Bavaria, because of Saint Crescentia. But it is now uncommon and old-fashioned. Personally, I still think it's a very beautiful name.
