On Star Trek: The Next Generation, the name Lal was borne by Data's ill-fated android daughter. It was explained that Data chose the name because it meant "beloved" in Hindi.

In the game "Alpha Centauri," Lal is the leader of the Peacekeepers.

Some people also use this as a nickname for "Lawrence," but I don't see how that works because they sound totally different. Great name. This is definitely on my list.
