My name is Lane, and I am a girl. I totally think that it is a good name for both boys or girls, and I hate the nickname Lanie. Just don't.
Also if you're an American, keep in mind that certain unsavory slang terms sound a lot like Lane, and you wouldn't want your kid to be too angry with you on the first day of high school.

Lane Kim is Rory's best friend on Gilmore Girls.

I think it's an interesting name for a boy or girl.
I like this name as a middle name for Gracie. I think this is a sweet name, but I have never met a girl with the name. My daughter has a cousin named Lane (a boy). But I like it for a girl just as well.
There's a really weird lady I work with who I couldn't tell if she was a man or a woman for a while. It's weird when people like that have gender neutral names. Other than that I do like this name. I think it sounds nice for either girls or boys.

I really like this name for both genders. But if I were to name a child this, I would definitely call them by the nickname Laney (boy) / Lainie (girl). Also, the meaning of the name is pretty boring, but at least the name sounds good.
I first saw Lane being used as a female name on the Gilmore Girls, though more recently it's the name of an English male character on Mad Men, Lane Pryce.
It's a bit odd, at first, but it's grown on me. I like it!
I think Lane is actually better on a girl, and it would age well. It's cute, but not too childish. Good for a boy, too.

Actually, it sounds really childish on a girl. Are you kidding?! Leave boys names to boys, for god's sakes! This is an ok name for boys, I think it would age well, but it seems more like a word than a name.

I believe there is a company called Lane Bryant, presumably named after a person
