So this name and the nymph that bears it could be a cognate to echo perhaps. The meaning of the words are slightly different but the story is almost identical.
In ancient Greek from the classical period (5th/4th) century BC, λαλέω actually means to chat/prattle/talk nonsense. Only later did the meaning shift to normal 'talk', the meaning it has in koinê Greek, the dialect in which the New Testament was written and in which it is the standard word used for talk/speak.
