Laurie R. King is an Edgar-award winning writer who has authored a best-selling series of Sherlock Holmes pastiches (focused on an original character, Mary Russell), as well as a series focused on a (fictional) San Francisco cop named Kate Martinelli.
A famous bearer is American actress Lauren "Laurie" Ophelia Metcalf (born June 16, 1955). She's best known for her role as Jackie Harris on the sitcom 'Roseanne', winning 3 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 1992, 1993, and 1994. She is also known for several stage productions in Chicago, Illinois.
I used to think this name was so gross. But now, since I met my future step-mom, who is Laurie, I think of her and it really makes me like the name. My impression is much better now, and I'd recommend the name for any little girl!

Laurie was the main character in the haunting book The Wave. She was very smart and independent and was one of the few who stood up for her beliefs. There was also a popular song in the 1800s called Annie Laurie. I think this is a pretty name and a better variation of Laura than the too-popular Lauren.
This name is also used in The Netherlands, mostly for females (on males, it is virtually unique). People also use the variant spelling Laury there, but that one is nowhere as common as Laurie. [noted -ed]
The spelling used for the lead female character in "Oklahoma!" is Laurey. I've never met an actual person with this spelling, but I do prefer it to Laurie.
