Leif is pronounced "LAIF" It has the Old Norse "ei" sound as in reindeer and Jotunheim.
My father's name was Leif Adolph Haugen. He pronounced his name life. My new grandson is named Leif as well.
Even in America it's pronounced 'Lay-ff', as someone said it rhymes with 'safe'.
In America it is usually pronounced LEEF.
The correct pronunciation of Leif is rhyming with "safe". It is NOT pronounced as Leaf, at least not in Scandinavian countries. [noted -ed]
