Lien (written Lian in pinyin) also means lotus in Chinese.

I find Lien to be a very pretty name even in English-speaking areas.

I think the spelling is 'Liên'. [noted -ed]

Pronounced LEE-AY^N

'^N' for nasal.

'Lien' is sometimes used in place of Liên in English. Lián is the Mandarin for 'lotus' as well and is pronounced 'LEE-AYN' (similar to the Vietnamese pronunciation, but N is not nasal). Both names are pronounced very similar to the English 'Leeann', but it is sometimes pronounced in English as 'Lynn' (Liên/Lien is my middle name and that's how it has been 'Americanised').

The Japanese form of this name would be Ren.

Đinh Diễm Liên, born 1971, is a Vietnamese singer and actress born and raised in Đà Lạt. Diễm Liên was born in Việt Nam into a family of five sisters where all the girls, including her mother, are named Liên. The only difference is their middle name.
