In the sixteenth century, when the church began to register baptisms, weddings and deaths, women in the Basque Country appear with the name of Lorena.
Lorea in Basque means flower.

A town in Italy where the Holy Virgin Mary was seen. Therefore, it is a religious place name, similar to being called Lourdes.
