The name of the race of wizards in J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.

The race in Tolkien was the Maiar. A single individual would be a Maia. Despite that, I think this is a beautiful name that does not call attention to itself as in some way connected to popular/genre literature that is not everyone's cup of tea. How many hardcore Tolkien nerds (yours truly included) are out there to prejudice this great name?

In Hans Christian Andersen's story Thumbelina, Maia is the name given to Thumbelina by the fairies at the end of the story when she marries their king. I like it - it's charming.
