I think this name sounds lovely and serene and it reminds me of the ocean. I'm not American, so I really didn't think of the US marines until someone brought it up. I'm also not too well versed in French politics, so I hadn't heard of the politician until now, although I don't think the name has been too tainted by her because it seems to be basically the Ashley of France. That being said, I am not French and would not know if the name has been ruined so badly.
Still a gorgeous name.
I think Marine is a beautiful name. I'm American, I don't care about Le Pen. Besides, her name has nothing to do with her personality or politics. That being said, I think it would be a lovely name in honor of the U.S. Marines. It could symbolize strength, bravery and patriotism, among other virtues. I like it for both genders, and I appreciate its length and uniqueness (in the U.S.). Overall, I think Marine is a great name.
No one in France will associate this with LePen. It's an extremely common name, it was #1 in 1991. Everyone will know a couple of Marines. It's like Ashley or Kayla in English speaking countries. So you don't have to worry about that if you like the name.
I'm not concerned about the ideological association of le Pen. I don't support her, but don't hate on this name just because someone else has it. Unless it's a name like Adolf or something, don't use that.
Meaning “of the sea”.
Also used in Armenia, as an Armenian name. [noted -ed]
Marine has a long history, dating back to 1900 in the US. It was in and out of the top 2000 names from 1917 to 1937. It has steadily declined ever since. In 2018, only 5 girls were given this name.

I think the name has an interesting sound to it. I would never use it, but I think this could be a refreshing name for those in English speaking nations. As for the negative commentaries below, all I can say is that it matters very little where I am located and political persuasions are meaningless for most people.
I used to like this name more, but now of course it's hard to because of that racist, fascist-leaning Marine Le Pen.
I actually really like the name, but Le Pen ruined it for me. If her popularity dies out, maybe I would consider it.
Very rare in English-Speaking countries.
I will never use any name associated with disgustingly racist right-wing fascists like Marine Le Pen.
