Deriving Marlen from Mar(x)Len(in) is wrong. There were Marlens (male name) in the 18th century. For centuries it was a legitimate (not only) Jewish name and surname.

Before posting wrong information do some homework! This name had never ever been a Jewish name.

It could also be an alternative spelling to Marlin.

The name Marlen struck me as odd as I was rating some random names. The meaning is a little bizarre, and it also sounds like a twisted "Merlin".

It sounds like a bastardization of Marlene, and of course it's another dumb name that Communist Russians use on their helpless children.

In Germany it's a female name pronounced "MAHR-lehn" and a combination of Maria and Lena; see also-> Marlene; Marlena; Maleen; Marlén.
