Paradiso is correct to point out that Martirio is also the Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian form of Martyrius.
I do want to say that I feel it's included as a feminine name only (it really should be unisex not only for Paradiso's statement) because of its overwhelmingly feminine usage in Spain (regarding other Latin American countries, which does include Brazil for that matter, it is mainly feminine though not to the degree seen in Spain), particularly in the southern province of Granada in Andalusia and the surrounding provinces. In this case, it is taken from the fact that the local patron saint of Ugíjar in Granada is the Virgen del Martirio "Virgin of the Martyrdom." [noted -ed] There are other regionally/locally skewed Marian names to be found in Spain, such as Capilla in Jaén (north of Granada) and Camino in León (up in north-west Spain).

I hate this name. It sounds so obnoxious, the meaning is stupid, and reinforces the racist stereotype that people from Latin America are fundamentalist Catholics.
