Comments for MATEJ:
It is a mistake to connect Matej (Slovak) and Matìj (Czech) with Matthew (the Evangelist) instead of Matthias (the Apostle replacing Judas). Matthew is Matouš (Czech) or Matúš (Slovak). [noted -ed]-- doktor 2/9/2005
Pronounced as "Mah-tay". Pet forms: Matt, Maty, Matys, Maťo.-- Karcoolka 6/28/2007
Also Croatian.
Pet forms: Mate, Mata.-- Anonymous User 3/26/2009
Pronounced as "maht-yey".-- MaggieSimpson 8/14/2009
This is also the Croatian form of Matthew.
Short forms include: Mate, Mato, Matko. These are also normally associated with the name Matija. [noted -ed]-- goricar 11/11/2009
This is not about pronunciation, but there's no proper cathegory for my comment.
"Matej" is written with wedge above E - in Czech it's quite a difference between E and Ě, it sometimes changes the meaning. Sorry if you're not able to write it corectly because of the coding of the site.-- Lostris 5/21/2012
