This means "mother" in French.

Actually, this name doesn't mean "mother" in French. The French word for "mother" is "mère" with the accent on the e. And this name - Mere - is written without accent.

Mere means "nothing more than what is specified". It also means "lake" or "pond".

For some reason, this is a completely lovely name in my opinion. It sounds kind of mysterious, with a great sound. I think it would be an excellent name for a character. It's short, but sweet.

In Maori it is pronounced Meh-ray. It is also the name of a weapon (Mere club) that is made of jade.

Um it's not pronounced Me-ray. Its merr-eh. Like Mary but instead of A you have eh. I think the pronunciation is pretty similar to the French word for mother. Not the spelling but the way of saying.
