This name may look a but too simple and too common, but it is still a fantastic short name, especially when paired up with my own name, Leo! I think these two names—Mia and Leo—make great twin names!

Here are some reasons why I don't like it:
1: Mama Mia. I've seen this reason for other Mias too, and I agree. This is so annoying, having to hear everyone - well, some people - sing 'Mama Mia" all day along and have to know you are the center of it all. I put up with this all through my early years when adults liked to tease me with this. When you meet someone called Mia, please don't sing "Mama Mia" because it might make them uncomfortable.
2: Pronunciation: I've seen this reason too. During school and outside classes, I always had to correct people who said Mya instead of "Mee-ah". It's so annoying. I haven't met any Mias yet who call themselves Mya, so I don't get where this stems from. Now when people say "Mya" I raise my hand and say "here" and let others correct the teacher.
It's okay in other ways. I like that it's 3 letters because it's easier to spell, and I don't agree that it should serve as a nickname. It stands okay on its own, though it's ironic that "Mimi", one of the name's nicknames, is 4 letters whereas "Mia" is 3.
Sorry to those who prefer Maria and Amelia over Mia, but I really think Mia is a better name than Maria and Amelia. Those two are so... old fashioned, I guess.

I think Mia is so different from long frilly flowery names like Arabella. It's sweet and romantic without being overwhelming. I love this name! I personally like it as a stand-alone name, with the exception of Amelia as a “parent name”. I have never been a fan— although they have their perks— of the names Miriam and Maria, which are two of the names “Mia” stems from. However, Mia is NOT a plain name. I prefer to call it TIMELESS, relating to the cute nickname of Mimi, which is simply adorable for a little girl. It also has more formal names attached to it, such as Amelia. I just raise my hand and say "here".

3. The way it sounds. It sounds REALLY annoying. I'm not sure if you've ever known anyone named Mia, but if you have, you've probably twitched every time you heard their name. That "eeee" sound in the middle makes me want to slam my head off something hard. It's the most obnoxious noise ever, and I have to hear it almost every time someone talks to me.

Hello Everyone my name is Mia. I hate my name and I will be changing it. Here are several reasons why you should reconsider naming a child Mia. (I am 24 years old btw)
1. Mama Mia. I absolutely hate this and I hate that people call me this (it's like I have no personality outside of this because of my name)

3. Mia is a pet name and I have met more pets named Mia than I have other Mia's.

I fell in love with the name Mia when I was 15 years old back in 1980. My Mia was born in 2004, so I had it as a favorite name for over 20 years when she was born. When I first heard the name, back in the 1970's, it was not popular, trendy or over-used. In fact, you never heard it. It may be common now but that is very recent. My name does come from many countries, it is just interpreted in different ways. It firstly came from The Latin language and has been adopted by nearly all the countries in the world now over time. My name is Mia and I personally have mixed feelings about the name. I feel that it doesn’t roll off the tongue well and I feel the name Maya would suit as a better name for all ages. Mia is so common, I've been called Mia G every single year in school, even when one of the other Mia's moved out of town. There was 4 Mia's in total, just in my class, and made the name totally uninteresting. It's ruined every thought of naming my child Mia something, even though my husband insists if it's a girl.
