Another meaning of "Miyako" is "shrine child" from "miya" (shrine) and "ko" (child).
The kanji '都' can also be used for this name; it means 'capital'.
My best friend is named Miyako. She was born & raised in Japan; despite what behindthename.com indicates, her name has no special meaning in modern Japanese. Though I personally think it's a beautiful name. :)
It also means 'a capital city'.
