For everyone saying they don't like the English pronunciation or that the French name is the "original"; this name is a variant of a variant of a variant of a different pronunciation of a Russian and Bulgarian name. You can literally go through like 4 pages to find this out.
Many of the German pronunciations on this site are incorrect.Yes, traditionally in German final Es would get pronounced. But this is not the case with foreign names. We pronounce Nadine the French way, nah-DEEN. The final E is silent. [noted -ed]
It's my middle name. My family and I have always pronounced it Nad-een. Only recently heard it pronounced differently and it weirded me out quiet honestly.
My name is Nadine - surprise! When I was born, it was a traumatic birth and my mother had been having a difficult time within her marriage to my father; both my mother and I came close to dying. I believe that had a lot to do with why she gave me this name. She told me when I was little what it meant (Hope). My immediate family always pronounced my name Nay-DEEN but my great auntie felt it sounded more refined as Nuh-DEEN and would never say it any other way. My childhood friends call me Dean or "dean a bean" (my mother's maiden name was Bean) and my grandkids call me Grandma Dean Dean. When I lived in Mexico for a time, they had trouble with the English pronunciation of my name so I said it Naw-DEEN-ay and that made it easier. People that I've been newly introduced to often call me other 'N' names, mostly these three - Naomi, Natalie and Nadia. I don't care how people pronounce my name, it's their interpretation and I find it interesting when I hear it said differently.
For me, my name is pronounced NAY-DEEN but that's only because I'm from the south, haha!
I don't mind my name as it is still unusual and no-one was called this at school or my workplaces apart from me. I have only ever known about 3 other people with this name. Mine is pronounced Nay deen and I really hate being called Nah deen but I get called that most of the time.
This is a beautiful name. The "na-DEEN" is the proper French pronunciation and of course, sounds way better than "NAY-deen".
This is my sister's name and we say it nah DEE nah, although I know that is not the norm and it was adapted from the French name.
Although na-DEEN is the French pronunciation, Nadine is also used in the English-speaking world. The alternate English pronunciation is nay-DEEN.
It's my understanding that the name also has an Irish derivation with the pronunciation being NAYdeen. After 40 years of answering to that, I hope it's right!
This is the name of a lady I know, she pronounces it "nay-DEEN".
As mentioned before, it is pronounced generally one of three ways: nah-din, nAY-deen, and na-DEEN.
This is my name and I pronounce it nah-din. I always get so frustrated when people say nay-deen or na-deen.
