This name can also be written with the kanji 那 (na) meaning "what". This kanji is spelled na with the Gon-On Reading. This Kanji is used in given names, an example is Nana Takagi.
Nana can also be written 七菜 (Nana) derived from the kanji 七 (na, Nanori Reading) meaning "seven" and 菜 (na, Kun Reading) meaning "greens, vegetables". Nana written 七菜 is the name of actress Nana Mori who played Kiyo in 'The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House' (舞妓さんちのまかないさん).
There are many different ways to spell Nana in Japanase.Na can be translated in the following ways:夏 (summer)
奈 (apple tree)
菜 (vegetable)
七 (seven)
梛 (evergreen tree)Therefore Nana can be any combination of the kanji above, or even the same kanji used twice. Na can also mean 納 (settlement) as well as several other things but those would be much more unlikely to be used in a girls name.
One might use this as a nickname for someone called Nayab.
The word "Nana" in Japanese means "seven" when written with hiragana. It can be spelled using different characters, a whole variety of them meaning many things, but it first and foremost means "seven". It is also a rather popular girls first name or a nickname for girls with names like Nanako or Nanase.
Nana does NOT mean green. Midori means green. Nana, as most have said, means seven.
Nana does not mean apple in Japanese, 'Ringo' does. Nana means seven.
It means "greens" in Japanese, not apple.
I'd have to check on the reference to this name meaning "apple" because I didn't know the kanji for apple could be pronounced that way.For "na", one can use the first character in Nara (which has a meaning that has something to do with a plant) or a kanji meaning name. For the second kanji, one can either choose one of these 2 kanji or a kanji that basically takes on the reading of the kanji before it (kind of like a ditto). You can add an "e" (ay) and make the name Nanae.
