Generally used as a short version of Natalie in more recent times. I haven't met a Nathan born after 1975 that wasn't a Nate or a Naith but every Natalie I meet (including me) gets called Nat.

Nat can also be short for Natasha, which is my name. [noted -ed]

I like this name. One of the most famous people named Nat at the time I'm writing this is probably Nat Wolff. He's really talented.

I don't know if you could call them a "famous bearer," per se, but Nat Titman wrote the original AVEN (asexuality. Org) FAQ.
