Meaning & History

Derived form the feminized (-et) form of the Ancient Egyptian deity Nefertem. Nefertem was the god of morning and associated with the blue lotus flower. This god's name meant "beautiful one who closes" or "one who does not close". Made popular by the character, Neferet, from the House of Night series by P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast. In which the character is a beloved Priestess who is known for her beauty, despite being adored but she remains emotionally closed off to others.
