With the popularity of Helena and Kornelia, steadily rising popularity of Aniela, and trendiness (albeit lessening) of Nel, Nela, Nella and Nelia, Nelly has its fans in Poland as well. Last year (2019) 14 baby girls were given the name Nelly as a first name, which means the name was #275 in the girls' first names' ranking. As a middle name it was used for 2 girls and was #544. Nellie was also used as both a first and a middle. There are 867 women having Nelly as their first name in Poland, and 119 who have it as a middle.
Nelly could also work as a diminutive of some of the above mentioned names like Helena, Kornelia, Aniela, Eleonora, Nel(l)a, Nel(l), Nelia, Penelopa, Petronela, even Angelika/Angela/Angelina as they are relatives of Aniela, or perhaps Daniela or Noelia though the latter is very rare. Linguistically, the spelling Neli would be preferred however as this is more intact with the Polish phonetics.
Since Nelly comes from Nell which is a diminutive of Helen and Eleanor, a Nelly in Poland could celebrate her name days either with Helenas (2nd March, 23rd April, 22nd May, 31st July, 18th August and quite a few other dates) or with Eleonoras (21st February, 19th December) or perhaps with Lenas (10th November). Nelly could be nicknamed to Nel (I know I just said that it's Nelly who works as a nickname of Nel but it can work the other way round just as well, Poles are very creative with their nicknames), Nela (as above), Nelka, Nelunia, Nelusia, Nelcia, Nelisia, Neliśka etc. Etc. Whatever strikes your fancy really, most of these nicknames would also work for a Nela or a Nel.
