A feminine form of Nicolas, which is from the Greek Nikolaos, a compound name composed of the elements nikē (victory) and laos (the people): hence, "victory of the people."

The meaning of the name Nicole in most of its translations is "victory of the people" or "people's victory". I've also heard "victorious among the people".

Since Nicolas is named after the Goddess Nike, then it would be more accurate to describe Nicolas as the male version of Nicole (rather than Nicole as the female version of Nicolas.)
