The masculine name Noah in Hebrew is pronounced NoaKH, (the kh sounding like the Spanish j). It comes from the word "neKHama", which means "comfort". (not to confuse it with "nekama" which means "revenge")
The feminine name Noa, is pronounced as it's written, and means "motion".
Hebrew speakers don't confuse the two, since they're pronounced differently and have different meanings, the names of two different Bible characters. One unmistakably masculine and the other feminine. It's the translation of the Bible to European languages that mixed them up.
