Two famous bearers of this name, related to the movie world, are silent screen actress Norma Talmadge and 1930s movie star Norma Shearer. Besides, Norma is the name of the leading lady in the TV soap opera "Pasión de gavilanes".

It's not a very pretty name, and it sounds like a country girl name from 1940's America. It always struck me as too close to the words 'norm' and 'normal', which are rather unfortunate terms to use for judging people anyway.

I like this name since it was Marilyn Monroe's real name, but it sounds very middle-aged and too close to "norm" and "normal".

Norma Shearer (born Edith Norma Shearer, August 10, 1902 – June 12, 1983) was an Academy Award–winning Canadian-American actress. She was one of the most popular actresses in the world from the mid-1920s until her retirement in 1942. Her early films cast her as the girl-next-door but after her 1930 film The Divorcee, she played sexually liberated women in sophisticated contemporary comedies and dramas, as well as several historical and period films.

Norma is an Italian name invented by Felice Romani in his libretto for Belini's opera of the same name. It is derived from Latin "Norma", known to mean, "Standard, Rule."

I actually like this name. I think it's nice. It's also my mom's name but I don't think she's too fond of it. People usually call her by her nickname or middle name.

Both my maternal grandmother and her first born daughter (my aunt) are Norma Jean's. Reminds me of the 40's-60's era, along with Marylin Monroe.
