Meaning & History

Icelandic name of uncertain derivation, possibly a feminine form of Pálmi using the Old Norse suffix ey meaning "island" or ey meaning "good fortune". Alternatively, this could be formed from Pála and the Old Norse element mey meaning "maid, girl" (poetic for "daughter", an alternative form of mær).
