In French, "Pierre" translates to stone or rock, but this likely has nothing to do with the name despite its French origin.
Of course the meaning "stone, rock" has something to do with the name - it's literally the translation of the name Peter/Petros which is Greek for rock, stone.
The word “pierre” means “stone” in French.
