Rosemary "Posy" Simmonds, MBE, FRSL, is a British newspaper cartoonist, and writer and illustrator of both children's books and graphic novels. She is best known for her long association with The Guardian, for which she drew the series Gemma Bovery (2000) and Tamara Drewe (2005–06), both later published as books. Her style gently satirises the English middle classes and in particular those of a literary bent. Both Gemma Bovery and Tamara Drew feature a "doomed heroine", much in the style of the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century gothic romantic novel, to which they often allude, but with an ironic, modernist slant.

I love this name so much I used it on my 6-year-old. Her name is Posy Dianne and I purposely used it because it's feminine and girly and sweet. I don't see the problem with using a name like that. There is no such thing as an unprofessional name, only an unprofessional person. I'm guessing the people who hate the name are haters of any name that isn't biblical or old-fashioned. And honestly pretty hateful people in general.

It's a full English word name. I think it can stand on its own perfectly, just like Ruby or Lily can.

It's cute. It fits right in with Daisy, Lily and Ivy - I don't find it too infantile. It's sweet and flowery.

Everyone's mad about Posy being a silly baby name but like... it's a diminutive of Josephine which is a lovely normal name? Obviously the big brain idea is to use Posy as a nickname for Josephine. A cute option and a fancy option.

I prefer the spelling Posey. I think it's a cute name, but I'd never use it because it seems irritatingly juvenile and an adult named Posey would probably have trouble being taken seriously.

I have a friend named Cora Posy __________ (not gonna say it on this forum). She is really smart and nice and hardworking and always tries to do the right thing. When she told me her middle name was Posy we all started laughing because she knows it's a silly name (we were not making fun of her). Said it was passed down in the family.

There’s a fantastic british film called About Time with Rebecca Adams and the daughter's name in that film is Posey (though I much prefer ‘ie’ spellings for nicknames) and she was a stunning little red headed child whom I thought suited the name very much. It would have to take a sweet and dainty girl to pull off the name. I think it’s girly and cute but not too common. So many negative comments about a beautiful name. I suspect there are many older and outdated people on this platform.

I think it's lovely. I'm not a believer in the idea that names can be unprofessional, though it is an incredibly feminine name, it would be unfortunate for a girl who grows up to not be very feminine herself.

I loved Ballet Shoes, and Posy is a beautiful name, in my opinion. I would not hesitate to use it for a baby girl.

My name is Persephone and Posie is my nickname so I think it's very cute. I've only ever gotten compliments on it so I think it's great.

I like the name Posy. It brings to mind a creative, independent, feminine lady. I'm not sure how you would get this from Josephine, though--seems like you would automatically be called Jo or Josie instead.

Positive outlooks of names are so much better than the negative, and more fun to read, too. What's wrong with being girly? Besides that, I think Posy is a lovely name for reasons I'm not totally sure about. I'm not into ballet but I liked "Ballet Shoes".

I didn't know this was a pet form of Josephine. I always thought it came from the flower Posy.

I however love this name as a nickname. IT IS NOT A FLOWER NAME. Posy Fossil is one of the greatest girls in modern literature (Ballet Shoes) and I think this name is a lot better than some modern names people come up with.

That is a VERY wierd name. If you want your daughter's name to mean 'flower', use 'Flora' instead.
