Ramsay is my family name and a number of my relatives have done much research into our family history. Ramsay is not the Scottish form of Ramsey. Ramsay is the anglicised version of Ramsaidh, a Scottish clan name derived from the French name de Ramesie, who were the forefathers of the clan. Alexander Ramsay is somewhat of a legend and a war hero. He survived a lengthy (I cannot remember all the details off the top of my head) period imprisoned in the dungeon of another castle in Scotland, during the war with England, due to the fact that he was imprisioned under the grainery and survived by eating the grain that fell through the floor of the grainery, which happened to be the ceiling of his cell. I will post more on that particular story, and perhaps some on my more recent ancestors.
