This is a verb, not a personal name. I dislike the name Reed too.
Read a book. To be honest, it's not that bad! I know it's weird, but something about it actually makes me like this name.
Read, Read a book.
This is a good name, although it is MUCH better as a middle/last name in my opinion.
I think Read is a really cool name. Name your child this, he will be successful.
Honestly a really cool name.
Read a book.Stupid name. To be honest the other commenters are totally correct, this name is like you're reading a book.
Questionable name.
Very stupid name. I think Read is an awful name. Imagine if someone's name was "Read A. Book", lol.
Really dumb.
I imagine a Read has siblings named Walk and Write. Seriously though, just no. This is a setup for teasing.
Great name!
Call your kid Talk and Hear too if you like Read.
This is stupid. This is a verb. Reed isn't much better.
This is a word, not a name. Get that through your head people.
Sounds very silly as a given name.
This is a setup for teasing. In class, the teacher would tell someone to Read, and this kid with this name would think he/she's talking to them. A command as a name is kind of weird.
Dawn Read Schafer is one of the members of the Baby-Sitters Club in Anne M. Martin's series of midgrade novels. Her middle name is likely supposed to get across how California-y (Read: hippie-ish and laid-back) her parents are, since her mother's maiden name is Porter.
Another bearer of the name is Mary Read (c. 1670/80-1721) a famous female pirate who disguised herself as a man and first fought as a British soldier and then served on board ship with another female pirate, Anne Bonny under Captain 'Calico Jack' John Rackham. Their ship was eventually captured and the male pirates hung, while the two women pled pregnancy and received a stay of execution. Mary died in prison of a fever, supposedly with the unborn child, while Anne simply disappears from the records.
This is silly. It's like calling a person Run, or Listen.
