Well my name is Reina and I am Puerto Rican. The strongest meaning behind the name is power, not only because it means queen, but it is a bold and well-delivered name.
I was very surprised to meet a Japanese college student named Reina. She said since coming to the USA, people think because of the name that she is Latina; and she said her parents didn't know the name meant "queen" in Spanish, they just thought "reina" sounds pretty. I didn't like the name Reina until I met this young woman. She looked and acted like she deserved to be called a queen.
This name is more common in South American countries and is rare in Spain (largely because it literally means "queen" and Spain is a constitutional monarchy with an actual queen). According to Spain's Instituto Nacional de EstadÃstica website, there are 355 women in Spain called Reina, 287 of whom are foreigners, mostly from Bolivia, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. However the compound name MarÃa Reina has some use in Spain, but is still rare.

I'm super picky with names, and I really like Reina. Good all around. Works in many different languages, sounds pretty, isn't boring and has a certain zing to it. If I ever have a daughter, this will be her name.
