Medieval French diminutive of Roberte. In other words: you could say that this name is the feminine form of Robertin.

This given name remained in use in France until the late 1960s, after which it became archaic. But today it still survives in other countries where the name had been introduced, such as the Netherlands, Canada, the United States and francophone countries in Africa.

A known bearer of this name was Robertine Barry (1863-1910), a French Canadian journalist and publisher.
