Roderick is the name of the main character in Edgar Allen Poe's short story, "The Fall of the House of Usher." He goes mentally insane at the end of the story and dies. It's a really creepy, weird, sad-sad story. Worth reading.

Roderick“s pet forms are Rod(y), Rory, Derek, Rodan, Rick, Rodrigo.
The real name of 'Spartan' from the new, revived UK Gladiators. Described as being handsome, disciplined and brave, he's good with the pugil stick and is quite the gentleman. He's also captain of the champion London Blitz American football team and is a freelance artist.
Roderick is also used relatively frequently in the Netherlands (this also goes for the spelling Roderik), where it is pronounced as follows: RO-də-rik.
I really love this name. It's rare and unusual but it's not goofy or weird. I like it a lot! I've never met anyone with this name and I would like to. A book character with this name is Rodrick Heffley, the big brother of Greg Heffley in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.
