I love the name Rufus! It is one of my favourite names. I think Rufus Aaron is a great combination. However, when I mentioned to my friends that I liked this name, they laughed and said it reminded them of a dog! I thought that was mean because this name is fantastic!-- FirChlis 1/26/2007
This name is just so bad. It has always been one of the worst names ever to me. I'd HATE it if my name was Rufus.-- Anonymous User 3/3/2007

This has to be one of the worst names ever. Sounds ridiculous. The reason that it's popular as a dog's name must be because it sounds like a dog's bark. ROOF-us.-- queenv 4/16/2008
Rhymes with 'doofus', and I bet other kids would realize that very quickly. This is just a hideous name. I wouldn't recommend it to be used on a dog, let alone a person.-- slight night shiver 5/5/2008
Doofus is such an outdated 80s insult. No one uses it anymore. That said, I have always loved this name because it sounds very strong.-- slyboots 11/15/2009
I really wish people wouldn't have started using this on dogs! This is a Saints name people! It is a classic, yet seems very modern to me. I can picture a modern day British actor. Actually I think there is a British actor with this name, but I can't remember his last name. I wouldn't use it because of the dog association, and I'm just not that bold, and my husband is even less bold than I am. But for the gutsy person, this name rocks!-- afmastro 7/31/2009
I think this is a really nice name, and I think it's definitely usable. For me, it has no dog connotations whatsoever, and I can see this name on a young child, an adult and an old man - I can just see it being used on any age, although I wouldn't use it as a first name as it's a bit too rare for my tastes, but I would consider using it as a middle name. :)-- walesgal92 4/10/2010
