Meaning & History

This name combines 左 (sa, sha, hidari) meaning "left", 沙 (sa, sha, suna, yonageru) meaning "sand" or 佐 (sa) meaning "assistant, help" with 門 (mon, kado, to) meaning "gate."

As a word, Samon (沙門) refers to a shramana or a wandering monk.

In modern times, it's rarely given to boys, if given at all.

Samon is also used as a surname.
