It sounds like "savage".

My family name on mothers side. It is from Saint Sabbas the Sanctified (439–532), Saint Sabbas Stratelates (272), in Balkan it is a masculine name, and it is different from feminine Slavic name Slava. In late Antiquity Greek pronunciation of letter Β β; Beta b changed from b to sound v, so to pronounce βιβλία biblia as vivlia.
Pronounced "sah-vah".
This name doesn't derive from Sabas but from a Slavic name suffix -sav. Just as name suffix -slav gives Slava, -rad gives Rada, -ljub gives Ljuba, -mir Mira, -sav gave Sava.
Sava, spelled "Sawa" [Sava], is also a Polish female name. Sawa is a mermaid from the legend about the city of Warszawa.
