Stan is also a name historically attested in Romania and is in use today. Its origin is most probably Visigothic (old Germanic tribes who founded first states after Romans lost province Dacia to barbarians in the 3rd century AD). The name is also cognate to "stone" in English, which is also of Germanic origin.
Slavic tribes migrating over the Carpathians a couple of centuries after the Visigothic invasion may have also brought Stanislav ('stan' - to stand and 'slav' - glory). However,
