There was a boy at my school named Tama. I barely knew him but the name has since been a personal favourite.

Tama Janowitz is a female writer, born in San Francisco in 1957, who became well-known as a "brat pack" writer in the eighties. Her name is probably a modernization of the traditional Jewish feminine name Tamar.

"Tama" is one of the most cliche Japanese names for a cat, similar to the English "Fluffy," or "Princess," etc.
