Meaning & History
Possibly related to the name of the Hittite god Tarku or Tarhunna, or perhaps derived from the Greek verb τεύχω (teucho) meaning "to make, do, perform; to cause, prepare". In Homer's 'Iliad' Teukros was a famous archer who fought in the Trojan War. He was the brother of Ajax, son of Telamon the king of the island of Salamis. After Teukros was banished by his father for not averting Ajax's suicide, Teukros sailed to Cyprus where he founded the city kingdom of Salamis on the east coast.
