Unity is a Puritan virtue name. Virtue names were meant to remind people of moral qualities. Other names include Obedience, Temperance, Piety, Prudence, and Patience. Some Puritan virtue names that are still used today are Grace, Joy, and Hope.
Seems to have been used a bit in Ireland/Scotland as an anglicized and elaborate form of Una.Love it, just not the Unity Mitford reference.
