Vera (Albanian) means 'Summer'. Often found as the shortened version of Pranvera (Spring) or Minevere.
Could be related to the Latin word for green.
It also means faith in Serbian.
The male version is Vero, meaning Latin: "true"; Russian: "faith"; Sanskrit: "great hero".
Other male versions include Veren - Scottish/Irish; Vereno - Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian; Verino - French; Verle, Virle - English; Verlin - German; Verlon - Swiss; Viro - Sanskrit.
Vera is also used as a short form of Verena.
I know a few people called Vera, but their actual first names are Veronica.
Verus may be a Latin cognomen.
In Greek Vera is usually short for Barbara.
I was under the impression this was an Italian name? The only evidence I have to support this is an Italian girl I met named Vera, and an Italian Opera with a character named Vera. Is there any other evidence that may suggest this?
