Yadira

I do think there's over a 90% probability that Yadira is a Hispanic respelling of the Arabic name Jadira. However, I don't think its use in Latin America goes back to Arabic speakers in Andalusia. I think it was introduced into Latin America much more recently by immigrants from Arabic speaking countries. There are a great many people in Latin America with Arabic, especially Lebanese, ancestry. Colombia in particular has a much higher % of citizens of Lebanese descent than the USA does -- one example being the famous singer Shakira -- so it would be no surprise the popularity of this name in Mexico was inspired by an actress from Colombia.

If you know that Arabs were in Andalusia for more than 800 years then I would say that name Yadira is highly likely to be Arabic. Furthermore, it’s still used as a name for girls. In Arabic it’s pronounced “Jadira”.
Jadira means : nature, paradise, safe refuge, or someone worthwhile.
In Arabic it’s written: جَدِيرَةٌ. It’s also worthy to note that until this day, the names Omar and Fatima are still used by the Hispanics and the Portugais.

I've read that Yadira is Hebrew and it means "friend." I've also seen a source that says it's a Spanish name.

I'd read elsewhere that Yadira was derived from the arabic word for "jade", although several other sources say it means "friend". They all seem to agree, however, that the origin of the name is arabic, which makes sense since a large part of the Spanish language comes from it.

Well my name is Yadhira. It is pronounced the same as Yadira. You see the 'h' in Spanish is silent and not pronounced. Searching my name I have found that its origin is Arab and it means 'to be friendly'. I have also heard that in another country it meant 'to be in an agreement'. Just though I would share this with whoever sees this website.

I was told by a Arab man that the name "Yadira" meant Goddess of the flowers.

Ya dira in Spanish means "already she will say!" Another possibility is the feminine form of the Hebrew name Yadid.
