Zeru is also a common name in Eritrea and Ethiopia, used in their respective languages Tigrigna and Amarigna. It means "his seed" or "his offspring" referring to G-d. It also is short for Zerubabel, a Jewish name found in the Old Testament.

This is a pretty cool-sounding name, but I probably would not name a child this because his classmates might call him "zero."

A child with this name probably wouldn't be living in an English speaking country in the first place.
