Latinized form of the Greek name Ὀξύθεος (Oxytheos), which was derived from the Greek adjective ὀξύς (oxys) meaning "sharp, keen, pointed" as well as "quick, swift" combined with the Greek noun θεός (theos) meaning "god".This is a very rare name (at least to us in modern times), in that it has been found on only one inscription (dating from the 3rd century AD), which was dedicated to a Roman soldier named Titus Flavius Oxytheus.
