Meaning & History

Persian form of the Avestan compound name Aurvataspa or Arvataspa, which consists of Avestan aurva meaning "swift" and Avestan aspa meaning "horse". As such, the meaning of this name is basically "swift horse" or "one who has a swift horse".

This was the name of a legendary Iranian king, who is featured in the 10th-century epic poem Shahnameh written by the Persian poet Ferdowsi.
