Lately I've been thinking about Ismay on a girl. What do you think of it?

It sort of reminds me of "dismay," and Esme (which is Twilighty).

I like the sound of it but it reminds me of J. Bruce Ismay.

...as in J. Bruce? He was the managing director of the White Star Line, and a passenger on the maiden voyage of the Titanic. He survived the sinking, and people labeled him a coward for the rest of his life. I wouldn't recommend the name.

It looks and sounds good, and it sort of interests me. I do have a hard time getting past the 'dismay' thing though.

It's one of my unused favorites. I encountered it first on this site: http://legitbabenames.wordpress.com/category/ismay/ I do prefer the way it's spelled there, Isemay. I think it seems more complete. I also prefer to pronounce it iz-MEE rather than iz-MAY, but I like it either way. (that rhymed!)

I've never seen the Isemay spelling before! I think that I actually prefer that. Thanks!

Never encountered Ismay. When I first saw it, I thought it looked like a sloppy spelling and prn. of Esmee... Esmee I like... Ismay not so much.

I prefer Esme. Isme or Ismé might work and look less like the word "dismay".

I've only ever seen it on boys - well, one boy, to be precise. I quite like it.

dismay?I see the word Dismay and not the name Ismay. It has a lovely sound, but dismay is not a feeling I would want to associate with the birth of a child.
