Re: What would you think
in reply to a message by Olwen
Francine? Poor kid. Does she have a brother named Arthur?
Bridget? Not much beyond the fact that I don't particularly like the name. I might assume her family was Irish or wannabe Irish.
Alma? Grandma better be leaving her a fortune for naming after her.
Sunny? Well, I would first of not be sure if it was Sonny or Sunny. I'd assume Sonny was a nn, that he was probably a Junior and I'd think the parents were pretty damn lazy. If I knew it was Sunny I'd hope it was a nn for a cheerful, sunny kind of baby and that they'd mostly outgrow the name. Otherwise it sounds like a pet.
Hilda? Maybe she and Alma and Francine can join the bridge club. Poor Hilda; her name sounds witchy as well as old.Tristan? I like this name and I have met a couple babies named this.
Walter? Comically and rather self-consciously dorky.
Lake? Lake Surname will always just sound like a recreational area.
Ari? I'd assume he was Jewish. It's not bad.
Cormac? He might be Bridget's brother. The name reminds me of Cormac McCarthy (whose real name is Charles and he supposedly chose Cormac to avoid jokes about Charlie McCarthy the ventriloquist's dummy) who is famous for his bleak, often gross, fiction. Seems more wannabe Irish than Bridget, since Bridget has seen a fair amount of use across the board. You're entitled to your own opinions.
