I don't think datedness by itself is a good reason to avoid using a name you like, any more so than the fact that a name is currently stylish isn't by itself a good reason to use it.
Even some classic names fall out of fashion. Mary is doing that now.

Agreed, and the case of Mary is really interesting because it's been consistently popular for over 2,000 years. All things must come to an end, it seems (but I hope it comes back in style again).
