Sighting: Miranda for a boy
I just read an article about a man whose middle name was Miranda. I really like it, it seems strong and handsome on a man.Do you think Miranda could work for a boy (either as a first or middle)?

It might, although I've never heard it on a boy before. Like Sian said, a lot of last names work as first names for boys: Hunter, Spencer, Blake, Jackson, Sawyer...

I suppose it's just another lnfn, but since where I live, 'randy' has a very specific meaning, I'd avoid Miranda as a fn at all costs and for anyone, male or female.Which is a pity, because it's a beautiful name with strong Shakespearean roots. I'd use it for a girl as a mn. So far it isn't particularly fashionable here to use random lns as fns - when it happens, it's for family reasons - so that's what I'd assume if I saw it on a local boy.

It seems to feminine. Then again, Elena and Elizabeth are also surnames, and on males they would be terrible.

Thus the reason I said, "A lot of surnames" instead of "all" or even "most."

I love it for a girl, but I can't see it on a boy. It's very feminine to me.

I like it, actually. Seconding the Lin-Manuel Miranda association.

Miranda is a surname so I kind of think it could work on boys. I think a lot of surnames are usable on any gender.
I really like it which is funny because it's boring to me on a female. On a male, it's bringing Lin-Manuel Miranda to mind so that's cool.
